We have a PA House Single Payer Bill

We have a PA House Single Payer Bill, HR 1660. Thank you, Rep. Kathy Mandarino and the 28 other co sponsors of this groundbreaking legislation.

Please call your state representative and ask him/her to support this bill.

I have only just moved to PA. But I came from Massachusetts where a DISASTER has just taken place. We USED to have a pretty amazing health care system for teh uninsured. All that needed to happen was to expand it. Unfortunately, neo-conservative Mitt Romney got elected, and they did something really grotesque instead.

You are now REQUIRED to PURCHASE health insurance in massachusetts. If the government decides you can afford it but you CAN'T, then you get FINED. The new plans, promised to have been cheap, are still HUNDREDS of dollars a month. The premiums climb higher and higher with age and sickness- just as they do in all other insurance-based health coverage systems.

Health insurance is a contradiction in terms. Insurance companies are able to profit because only a fraction of the people they are insuring will ever need to make a claim. But this is not so in health care- because we ALL get sick and need medical attention- even if it is only to be born and die. Any insurance company that sells you a policy for sucha zero-sum game is a scam operation.

So massachusetts has put its citizens back into the hands of the deadly scam artists- and is now FORCING them to buy their scam-o-rific PRODUCT- because thats what health insurance is. A PRODUCT.

So! I hope folks in Pennsylvania will take a lesson from Massachusetts, and make sure nothing of THIS sort is slipping into any of these single payer measures being discussed! Remember- in MOST countries health care is FREE!
